Another popular variation of blackjack in the tournament circuit, is ‘elimination blackjack.’
Elimination Blackjack is one of the most competitive and interesting forms of Blackjack games. It is a tournament of Blackjack which was invented by the best known Poker player, Russ Hamilton. Elimination Blackjack is played on the Ultimate Blackjack Tour which is a televised series of Elimination Blackjack Tournaments broadcast on CBS. It debuted on September 16, 2006. The winners of all the weekly tournaments are called back for the final round of Elimination Blackjack. This show is hosted by Max Rubin (Gambling expert) along with Mati Moralejo (an actor) and Shandi Finnessey (American beauty queen). Along with blackjack pairs game, elimination Blackjack is played in some of casinos as well.

The game of Elimination Blackjack is played with a shoe of six decks. A maximum of seven players are allowed per table. A single round of Elimination Blackjack usually consists of 30 hands. The players start by placing the bet first. The minimum bet is of $10,000 chips and the maximum is of $100,000 chips. However, these betting limits mentioned above are not fixed as it may change depending upon the casino or the organization hosting the tournament. The player with the maximum chips at the end of 30 hands is declared the winner.
The rules of the game of Elimination Blackjack are a wonderful blend of the Blackjack and certain basics of Texas Hold’em Poker. According to basic Blackjack rules, the dealer must hit on soft 17 or anything below and must stand on hard 17 or anything above. The players can split the pairs up to four times with an exception of the pair of Aces which can be split only once. Whenever the player surrenders, they get one half of their original wager. It also provides the option of insurance bet if the up card of the dealer is an Ace. The player can double down their bet only after the first two cards have been dealt. The player is given 25 seconds to make a decision to split, double, fold or hit for every hand. However, in the case of ‘elimination hand’ a player is given 45 seconds to take a decision.
The player is eliminated from the tournament on three grounds. As in Texas Hold’em Poker, the player is eliminated from the tournament when they lose all their chips. If the player doesn’t have enough chips to meet the minimum wagering requirements it is reason again for elimination from the tournament.
After certain hands have been played, the player having the least value of chips is also asked to leave the game. In this case of elimination, the usual levels of elimination are 8, 16 and 25 hands. These hands are referred to as the ‘elimination hands’ in the game.
